NOURISH THE SKIN YOU'RE IN
Today we ask the fantastic Emma Berry, aka 'Peach Berry Make Up Artist' her top tips to nourish the skin you're in
1. What do you do as part of a regular routine to look yourself?
I’m an early riser and always set my alarm for a quiet half hour of reflection, journal writing and pulling my daily tarot cards. Life tends to be so chaotic, I think these quiet, meditative moments are really important to maintaining my wellbeing!
I also try to have quality time AWAY from my phone – it’s so easy to get absorbed in running social media and sites when you are running a business. But anti-screen time and spending time with my little girl really keeps me grounded and makes me feel good!
2. What are the key things you have found that nurture self-nourishment?
It sounds like a modern day cliché, but I really find meditation and the principle of gratitude helps you to feel comfortable in your own skin, it’s hard sometimes to feel ‘enough’ when you are working 24/7 to cement yourself and your business in the world – but to reflect on what you are achieving each day is a constant reminder that you, indeed, ARE enough.
3. What could you do more of to nourish the skin you're in?
Drink more water – I can be terrible for not drinking enough water. If I am in the salon all day or on a full day’s shoot, it’s so easy to go for hours without drinking – which is never good!
4. What top tips have you got to give others around your working life to stay on top?
Always give yourself quiet time/down time – the world will do without you for five minutes and I believe that everyone needs to be refreshed.
JOURNAL and PLAN! I’m a huge list writer and I love ticking off jobs that I have done. I find it really helps me to stay on top of jobs that need to be done and has helped me to prioritise my workload as my business has grown.
Say YES and worry about it later! Which contradicts the importance of planning – but most of my opportunities have come from me saying a big, fat ‘yes’ and then worrying about the logistics later. My belief is that if I want something enough I will go that extra mile to get it!
5. What are the things you couldn't live without that are key to your happiness and nourishment?
My daughter – she is my reason behind everything that I do – she is such a character and brings so much joy to my life!
Writing – I have always said that ‘I write as easily as I breathe’ – whether it’s penning a blog, writing in my journal or getting on with my next future best seller, writing really is the key to my soul.
Music – we have music on at home more than we have TV on. I have a very eclectic and eccentric taste and I see music as a sense – it can transport and evoke in ways that other things can’t and I just couldn’t imagine my life without it.
Tarot Cards – I am shamelessly in love with my tarot cards and I find them such great counsel and guidance for moving myself forward and reflecting on my work and life situations. I have a beautiful set which I bought shortly after turning 30 and I pretty much carry them with me everywhere!
