NOURISH THE SKIN YOU'RE IN
Today we talk to our good friend, the fabulous Rhiannon Brooks who offers some very wise words of wisdom and tips to nourish the skin you're in.
1. What do you do as part of a regular routine to look yourself?
I’m someone that doesn’t do detail particularly, so any ‘routine’ as it were needs to be fairly quick and simple. For my skin it involves a simple cleanse and moisturise. I don’t want lots of lotions and potions, just one or two products that are effective and make my skin feel and look good. Exercise is ingrained in my weekly routine. I love the endorphin release and I think it's key to having a positive outlook on life. Variety of exercise for me keeps it fun. I’ve run for years – the wind in your face is a must to clear the mind and raise the spirits. For a more social activity I’m new to Cross fit and I love it! It’s challenging but everyone involved is so encouraging you just keep wanting to go back.
2. What are the key things you have found that nurture self-nourishment?
Mmm here I think it's actually easier to think about avoiding what doesn't nourish you. I have definitely come to realise that what you feed yourself makes a huge difference to how you feel. Wen in my 20's I'd think noting of sinking junk food and lots of alcohol. My body just does not handle that any more. So fresh food just makes everything inside tick along better and energy levels are, well more level! It also helps if your friends and family have a similar outlook on their lifestyle. Another key to self nourishment; worrying about things you've no control over - let go of them as this certainly does not nourish you. Worrying just gets you down and causes terrible frown lines! Instead, concentrate on what is achievable and you’ll feel much more in control and happy. I generally try to work on the basis that if something ticks 75% of my boxes, then that is good enough. Nothing and no one is perfect and to try and make them so just sets you up for a fall. Compromise is good!
3. What could you do more of to nourish the skin you're in?
My skin is becoming more susceptible to hormonal breakouts and I honestly don't know why! I'm wondering if Skin Elixir can offer any guidance on what I can do to balance this out and nourish my new found hormonal skin?
4. What top tips have you got to give others around your working life to stay on top?
Avoid firefighting. It makes the daily grind so much more stressful and you become far less productive. Break down work into bite size chunks and plan what you can realistically achieve on each working day and stick to the schedule. Nothing more satisfying than ticking off a to do list! You can then go home and enjoy the time ahead of you. Oh and stop with my friend procrastination! It's a clever little sod that all too often creeps into working life and you don't even realise it!
5. What are the things you couldn't live without that are key to your happiness and nourishment?
Key to nourishment is bananas - just the best food ever. Taste lush, healthy, portable, cheap and yellow. What's not to love! Water for obvious reasons! Variety of food. Being a food lover there's nothing better to me than to try new foods and recipes. My son Jacob has developed this passion too I'm pleased to say, so we share a deep appreciation for all things foody and that must surely be nourishing. Happiness, well that is always the simple things isn't it...your children holding your hand, a big Sunday roast with family and friends, running through the streets, witnessing all the colourful sights and sounds of daily life.
I'm 40 years old, live with my husband, two boys and two cats in the lovely Newark on Trent. I work for a wealth management company where I have the pleasure of helping clients put together plans for the future so they can achieve their aspirations in life. I'm generally a happy chappy who enjoys what life has to throw at me.
