NOURISH THE SKIN YOU'RE IN
In this Wednesday's feature post we ask the fabulous founder of The Boogie UK, Rachel Hinton her top tips to nourish the skin you're in. If you'd like to contribute then please get in touch as we'd love to hear from you please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
1. What do you do as part of a regular routine to look yourself?
The thing that makes the biggest difference to my daily life, is regular mindful movement. This typically includes yoga, taking a walk or having a quick dance around the kitchen. It brings me back in to my body and supports my choices around the food I eat and how I approach my day with regards to what I need to feel nourished, energised and keep my creative fires alight. I find it also enables me to give and receive more fully in all the ways I wish, both personally and professionally.
2. What are the key things you have found that nurture self-nourishment? Moving my body in ways that light me up, such as dancing. This helps me to connect to and trust my body and follow my instincts. Which are both vital for my well-being and flow in my life and this also supports me to make clear decisions in alignment with my values for my business.
Doing what lights me up empowers me to let go of the, ‘Shoulds’ and ‘Oughts’, which can otherwise zap my creativity.
And one of the things I find vital is writing a gratitude list, it’s really quite magical. Before I go to bed I simply write a list of at least 10 things I’m grateful for that day. There’s so much written about the benefits of gratitude these days that support my experience around it’s capacity to increase happiness and the flow of abundance in our lives
3. What could you do more of to nourish the skin you're in?
I’ve noticed a link between the times when I haven’t been nourishing myself enough and the rise of my inner critic, and it’s good to remember wise words like this quote from Brene brown - “Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love”. We can be so hard on ourselves, in ways we’d never be to anyone else, it’s crazy. And catching these thoughts is an on- going practice in offering ourselves the same kindness and compassion we give to others.
4. What top tips have you got to give others around your working life to stay on top?
Creating and nurturing a supportive network. It’s essential to have people around us who understand and appreciate who we are and wish the best for us.
Carving out and actually putting the time in the diary for self - care – whatever that is for us. And have I mentioned moving your body & connecting with your breath regularly throughout the day. It can be as simple as standing and enjoying some deeper breaths and stretching out, which enlivens our energy again, having a whole body shake, which is great for releasing frustration and over thinking. Or putting on a track that you love, and moving however the music takes you, which can change your whole perspective!
5. What are the things you couldn't live without that are key to your happiness and nourishment?
Laughter and an impromptu boogie to a track on the radio with my daughter. Regular time with friends. Dancing, whether at home or on a beach on Ibiza Yoga and time to soak in some stillness. Walking in nature. Dreaming and gratitude. And my Spotify playlists.
I’m the founder and producer of The Boogie – The dance night for women. As movement, yoga and dance have been a healing, transformative and life enhancing part of my life for as long as I can remember, my greatest passion and work is inspiring women, through moving their bodies in ways that feel really good, to love and enjoy the skin they’re in.
