NOURISH THE SKIN YOU'RE IN
Introducing Vicky Taylor, founder of 'Neighbourhood Massage', who is today answering a raft of new wellness questions for our 2018 blog!
How important do you find self-nourishment is?
It is far more important to me now in my forties than in my twenties when I could eat what I wanted. Now if I don’t eat well or exercise regularly I feel pretty bad.
I started practising yoga 6 years ago as although I’ve always been sporty playing county netball I had to stop after rupturing both Achilles’ tendons. Thankfully not at the same time. Yoga is brilliant in helping you be more aware of yourself and the world as well as keeping you supple. The first thing I learnt was the sun salutation and I swear by doing it every morning before breakfast. You can do it whilst waiting for the kettle to boil!
What works for you in terms of striking a work/life balance?
I’m self employed now so have a lot more control than when I was employment. I did used to work very long hours at times. I’m lucky I can switch off when I’m not at work. I think that’s important & if you can do that you’re not wasting your spare time.
What is your ideal beauty routine?
Removing make up before bed and getting a good 8 hours sleep. This doesn’t always happen of course especially if I’ve had a big night out at the weekend.
How do you nourish your body and mind?
I try to eat a balanced diet although chocolate is my downfall. I exercise and meditate. I’m a music lover and always listening to something. I find it lifts my spirit better than anything and is also a form of meditation for me. I am obviously a big fan of massage. It’s a wonderful therapy for relaxation of the mind and body.
Why do you think there’s a growing demand for natural products?
People want to know what ingredients are being used in products now and are more informed on the damages caused by artificial additives and chemicals. Lots of modern ailments are man-made.
What contributes most to your happiness?
The health of my loved ones & myself of course. Spending time with like minded people making the most of the here and now.
What lifestyle & beauty tips would you pass to others?
Be kind even to those who may not necessarily deserve your kindness. Smile - it’s infectious and your day will be much better because you do. Invest in a good red lipstick - you can take on the world with a great red lip!
“I loved you first: but afterwards your love
Outsoaring mine, sang such a loftier song…”
For one is both and both are one in love…” (Christina Rossetti)
What do you think true love is? As we approach Valentine’s Day, so much is written about the meaning of love and so many expectations are raised that often we are disappointed with the reality of the day. Why not treat this Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to focus on what really matters to you and your loved one?
Think about what your partner would appreciate most! It doesn’t have to cost the earth!
1. Write them a poem expressing just how you feel – it doesn’t have to match Shakespeare or Rossetti but if it comes from your heart it will be just as beautiful!
2. Organise an indoor picnic, with all of their favourite treats. Don’t forget the champagne (or prosecco)!
3. Leave a love message pinned to the bathroom mirror.
4. Make some aphrodisiac cocktails together after work!
5.Sprinkle their favourite perfume/scent over some notepaper and write a song especially for the two of you!
Want to raise temperatures?..we really think our signature scent, Sangfroid 'grace under pressure' will be well received by your lover as a Valentines gift.
