NOURISH THE SKIN YOU'RE IN
Today we get the low down from Laura, founder of Beauty Beyond Cruelty blog for her top tips to nourish the skin you're in.
1. What do you do as part of a regular routine to look after yourself?
As a student and a working mum of two, I find it difficult to look after myself. I'm busy looking after everyone else but I have found headspace which is a saviour for me. It's a mindfulness app, there are SOS singles that last 2 mins or packs that last up to 20 mins each so whatever you have time for. I also always feel better if I have exercised and had good food.
A good tip for longer lasting nourished skin. Water water and more water.
2. What are the key things you have found that nurture self-nourishment?
A huge weight from my shoulders was when I went vegan. It felt like a weight had been lifted from my soul. This extends to clothing and of course cosmetics which is why I started Beauty Beyond Cruelty to help others find more ethical makeup and beauty. Not only are animal free products better for your conscience but they are also better for the skin you are in.
3. What could you do more of to nourish the skin you're in?
Oh I could definitely pay more attention to me. I often feel it's selfish but it's actually essential. Do a face mask and use a nice moisturiser - it's not selfish. We don't get a second chance to enjoy life. I would also like to buy more natural products; free from parabens and nasties.
4. What top tips have you got to give others around your working life to stay on top?
My biggest biggest biggest tip to anyone is 'NEVER.GIVE.IN'. EVER. I used to have a habit of giving in when life got tough or when I hit a hurdle...it wasn't until I realised that if you really want something it won't happen firsts time that things really started to happen.
5. What are the things you couldn't live without that are key to your happiness and nourishment?
Love. Laughter. Dancing.
I'm Laura, 33, Psychology student, Residential Child Worker and mother of two daughters. When I became vegan my eyes were opened to animal testing for beauty, cosmetics and cleaning products and how many items still contain animal by products. I started Beauty Beyond Cruelty on Facebook (group and page) and Instagram to raise awareness about fabulous cruelty free products available in a positive and informative way. We have built a fantastic community full of makeup artists, bloggers, companies, vegans and non vegans all working together to spread the word.
