NOURISH THE SKIN YOU'RE IN
Today we talk with the kind and down to earth Sarah Harrison, founder of Hotpod Yoga Nottinghamshire for her top tips to nourish the skin you're in.
1. What do you do as part of a regular routine to look yourself?
Running three hot yoga studios across the Notts area, I am pretty much always on the go. Teaching hot yoga keeps me fit and very conscious of my body – how it moves, what it needs, where I hold my tension and where my head space is at. As the years tick on I have become increasingly more aware of a good skincare regime and I am a big fan of facial oil before bed. What I put into my body is also really important to me, the pod can be pretty physical so thinking about what I eat and when I eat it is very important, along with gallons of hydration.
2. What are the key things you have found that nurture self-nourishment?
I am a big fan of Yin yoga and many of the key concepts associated with Yin find their way into our Nurturing Flow Class. This also gives me the balance I need between my mostly yang activities. Rarely do we ever allow ourselves time out, and I believe this is only going to become more important for our mental health and wellbeing in this media rich world that we live in, tied to our phones and never finding stillness.
3. What could you do more of to nourish the skin you're in?
Sleep In an ideal world I would have an Indian head massage once a week, I would have time to pick up a sketch pad, and I would get back to making bread, just simple things really but things that make me content.
4. What top tips have you got to give others around your working life to stay on top?
Sleep is right up there for me, as many hours as possible before midnight can solve many problems. I also really like getting up early, which is when I find I am at my most productive and creative – in those early hours before the rest of the world wakes up you can achieve so much on your to-do list. After many years in sales I find that I respond really well to goals and targets, but more than that I think it is just about clarity around what you are trying to achieve, I am never far away from my highlighters and planning book.
5. What are the things you couldn't live without that are key to your happiness and nourishment?
bookI couldnt leave without animals around me - an English bull terrier, Fanny, and a stray black cat who eyed us up for around 18 months before eventually deciding we would do! However busy and frantic a day can be, these two always greet me with nothing but love, and that is very grounding. I was teaching a yoga retreat in Sri Lanka this autumn, and by the end of the fortnight we had nearly as many stray dogs on the yoga mats as people!
Sarah brought the London-based franchise, Hotpod Yoga, to Nottinghamshire in 2014. This year she has opened up a new studio in Nottingham city centre and one in the Roko building in West Bridgford, and will be opening in Newark in early 2018. Hotpod Yoga Notts run 60 classes a week with a teacher team of 20 and 3 different class types.
