NOURISH THE SKIN YOU'RE IN
We catch up with specialist Vinyasa Yoga Teacher and Yoga Teacher Mentor, Monique Fryer for her insight to nourish the skin you're in.
1. What do you do as part of a regular routine to look after yourself?
When I wake up I take a big mug of warm water with lemon into my little Yoga space and practice for 20-30 minutes.
I take a moment to sit, breathe and tune in to what does my body need & ask what do I want to feel today?
Yoga is an essential part of my routine like brushing my teeth and in over 18 years of practice its helped me through raising two lovely kids and now in my fifties managing my hormones and staying strong.
2. What are the key things you have found that nurture self-nourishment?
Self- care is an ‘on trend’ word, its so vital because if you are able to care and nurture yourself you are better equipped to care for others. It took me awhile to stop feeling guilty about making ‘Me Time’ but all your loved ones benefit when you feel well and calm. Whether its a long hot bath or a nap, do it.
I try to follow ayurveda principles when preparing meals. In autumn eating warm foods, so no more smoothies! Main meals at lunch, and soup for dinner. My energy levels are much better throughout the day.
3. What could you do more of to nourish the skin you're in?
Confession time, I don’t always wash my face at night! I tend not to wear much make up though- sweaty Yoga classes and make up do not mix. I'd like to have massages & facials more often
4. What top tips have you got to give others around your working life to stay on top?
When you sink into overwhelm choose one thing that is your priority right now and go do it.
5. What are the things you couldn't live without that are key to your happiness and nourishment?
Getting together with family and friends for yummy food and belly laughs.
Walking in nature especially seeing the sea feels invigorating.
Good time management to avoid overwhelm. Yoga teachers tend to spread themselves too thin rushing from class to class with barely time to eat, not a great example and over the years unsustainable as I've learnt, and now mentor new teachers on smarter ways of planning their careers.
Monique is a Senior Vinyasa Flow Yoga teacher with over a decade of teaching under her mat and mentors Yoga teachers on creating a long term, sustainable & joyful career.
Her classes, workshops, retreats and private tuition are famed for making challenging poses accessible for all levels with lots of expert guidance on the ‘how to’ and creating an environment that is informative and fun.
